Most students take four subjects at AS level in the first year and three to A level in the Upper Sixth. Students are encouraged to choose subjects which they enjoy and are prepared to study in-depth. We offer a wide choice of subjects and subject combinations in the Sixth Form and students are given plenty of advice on the best choices for them. Universities, colleges and employers often welcome applicants who show a breadth of interests in their academic qualifications.
Teaching groups in the Sixth Form are smaller than those in the Senior School, giving students the opportunity to make much greater contributions. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own studies and learning but within a secure framework of support, encouragement and guidance from well-qualified teaching staff. We pride ourselves on preparing students for their public examinations and Dunottar has an excellent record of examination successes at A Level.
Alongside their A Level subjects the Sixth Form is offered a choice of
courses in the General Studies Programme. The programme is designed to extend
and complement their academic studies and provides the opportunity to learn
new skills. We also provide a varied programme from which Sixth Formers choose
their options for their weekly Physical Education lessons.
