Junior School Curriculum

Reception

Girls enter Reception in the September after their fourth birthday. With small classes and individual attention, our Curriculum continues to develop those skills identified in the Early Learning Goals under the guidance of our committed staff. Girls also begin more formal learning in literacy and numeracy.

Key Stage 1

Years 1 + 2

During the next two years of their education, the girls experience a broad curriculum. They are encouraged to read a range of books and to write more extensively in a variety of styles.

Mathematical skills are developed, combining mental work, practical experience and more formal written methods.

Key Stage Two

Years 3 – 6

Form teachers deliver the core subjects of English and Mathematics, although we set the girls in these subjects where possible. An increasing number of subjects are taught by specialists from both the Junior and Senior School. Science is taught in superbly equipped laboratories. Drama and design & technology are introduced and the range of PE activities expanded to include Netball, Pop Lacrosse, Athletics and Rounders. There are regular fixtures with other local schools.

Girls experience a full range of National Curriculum subjects extended in breadth and depth. We encourage every girl to learn to challenge her own educational ability and to achieve the highest standard of which she is capable.
